Hi all,

Any of you able to share your experience with schefflera macrophylla?

I was able to get my hands on one last weekend and i’m planning to put it in the ground next year. I hear different stories with regards to hardyness so i hoped maybe someone is able to share some knowledge or experience? I’m located near Rotterdam, so winters are mostly not that cold but can be wet.

This is a plant I don’t have any experience with, but would to grow. I know Yorkshire Kris grows it, maybe @George or @greatnorthernexotic can help?

Hi, unfortunately I lost my plant but I suspect it was never the strongest example and the heatwave last year really stressed it before a tough winter. Yorkshire Kris has a fantastic one growing outside and Mark Goodlad has a tough one growing near me in North Lincolnshire, you’ll see it near his greenhouse in my Mark’s Crazy Tiki Garden YouTube vids.

I can’t help with firsthand experience but I know York Gate Garden lost theirs whereas their s. taiwaniana, s. alpina and s. delavayi all came through unscathed. Fantastic plant though!

Yeah, i’ve seen the video’s of Yorkshire Kris and I believe he doesn’t have too many issues getting it trough most of the winters.

Eventually it all depends on what winter you will get (were you got no control over) and the microclimate on the spot were the plant grows.
