Impatiens for a tropical style garden
Posted by Craig A on June 20, 2023 at 2:57 pmHi all,
I currently grow several Impatiens for my tropical garden and wondered if anyone had recommendations for other species that are worth a try?
I currently grow…
- Impatiens auricoma x bicaudata
- Impatiens tinctoria
- Impatiens flanaganei
- Impatiens tuberosa

Love these! Do you fond Impatiens omeiana is quite slow to establish?

It seems to have hit the ground running for me, it went in slightly later than this last year so I brought the plant back in for the winter (and it promptly died on me) but there was obviously some root left in the ground and it has spread around a bit already. It is in a N NE aspect under shrubs in a heavy soil that water-logs in winter.

I love this hybrid, it grows so quickly. I found that if you save seed and sow them you often get a nice variation in the seedlings 👍

We can get into the 30s in the winter. Last winter they bloomed all year round. Seems they hate the heat more than the cold.
